A project born out of friendship

Our Onlus was born informally as an initiative between friends in Rome and Livingstone, in Zambia. In 2011, during some volunteer trips in Zambia and Malawi with an English organization that deals with the distribution of books in schools, we have seen how very many children, often very young, lack access to basic education due to poverty of their families. In Zambia, for example, school drop-out is very frequent and children end up spending their time on the streets, without building a future.

We then decided to put our forces together, few or many depending on availability, and try to bear the costs of the studies of some children we met in the village of Sinde, a district near Livingstone, in Zambia. All this was possible thanks to the help of our English manager who lives and works on site, Kelly, who helps us with constant checks and planning of interventions. Immediately this idea was welcomed with enthusiasm and passion by many friends, relatives and work colleagues who gave us a hand with financial support, with their time, with their respective professional specializations and their facilities.

Thanks to this choral collaboration, from 2012 to 2015, without a single euro of donations to cover the costs or used for reimbursement of expenses, it has been possible:

  • to pay the costs of completing primary education (equivalent to junior high school) for an entire class of 21 children from the village of Sinde, including the purchase of uniforms, scholastic contributions, teaching materials, shoes, etc .;
  • cover the costs for education and the purchase of essential goods (clothes, medicines, food, educational materials and even some toys) for the little girls and girls of the Lushomo family home in Livingstone, whose small guests were victims of abuse in family;
  • to contribute to finish the construction works of the reading room for the children of the suburb of Zwelopili, also in Livingstone, built by an English non-governmental organization and today always fully functional;>
  • to allow to complete the cycle of studies of ten girls from very poor families in Lilongwe (Malawi) by paying their school fees and what is necessary for their study.

Our control activity also remains for past projects (in particular the Zwelopili reading room).
